Character name: Leonard L. Church

Fandom: Red vs Blue

Point in canon taken from: Ep. 100, after the ‘Why are we here’ bit with Caboose.

Appearance: Church is a member of the Blue Team and as such wears a cobalt blue armour suit –until he’s killed and then appears white. As a ghost he is able to possess other people and humanoid robots. His current armour is an off coloured silver-blue.

Beneath the armour, Church is a fairly tall, dark haired male with blue eyes. Aged mid thirties, probably close to thirty two, although it doesn’t make him any better with a snipe rifle.

Personality: Church is an asshole, plain and simple. He is angry about everything; his fucktard team-killing teammates, his shitty sniper scope, his deaths, his posting, the war, his enemies. Everything. He curses frequently about even the smallest things and especially when plans go wrong or when talking to or about Caboose –who he hates as much as he hate Tucker. However, despite all of this, he does get emotional when members of the team are injured, killed, possessed or captured. He excels at taking command in stressful situations, which he does quite a lot; going as far as to return from the dead to take charge a record number of eight times. He leads the blue team in Blood Gulch, even though he is the same rank as everyone else at the base and is technically the reason their Captain died in the first place. He also seems to be just slightly smarter than Caboose, Tucker and Doc.

History: Church was stationed in the Blood Gulch Blue Outpost for a considerable amount of time. For most of his time in the backwater canyon, he spies on the Red Team’s base through the scope of a sniper rifle with his teammate Tucker. When the blue team receives a new member, Caboose, Church quickly tells him just how much he hates him and their flag gets stolen by the Red Team’s new recruit. In a short while, Church ends up dead, shot by Shelia –the Blue Team’s tank while Caboose was at the helm. In the following days [hours?] his [ex-]girlfriend shows up, helps get the flag back, gets captured, is rescued by Church –who possesses the Red Team’s leader to free her and she then ends up dead, and the Red Team are still undefeated. However, Church can return as a ghost and possess several bodies in pursuit of finding a new and empty body to inhabit. He takes control of Lopez, the Red Team’s robot, to have a body, going as far as to paint the dark grey armour blue in his claim.

Even after a few months time, Church is found still attempting to adjust to living inside Lopez’s robot body. He ends up negotiating with his not-quite-dead ex-girlfriend, Tex, to destroy her old AI O’Malley in return for Lopez’s body, which she sneaked into when Church had to leave it hoping that Lopez would repair some minor functions that were tampered with. This fails and Church decides to give Lopez back to the Red Team with the team medic Doc in return for two new robot bodies, one for Tex and one for Church himself. Sarge, however, placed a bomb inside of Church’s robot body, which explodes and sends everyone but Church himself to the future while he is sent to the distant past. There, he meets Gary, an AI in a computer, who tells Church of a great prophecy about the Great Destroyer who is thought to be Caboose. To try and prevent himself from being stuck in the past for thousands of years, Church attempts to undo all of the wrongs of his time at Blood Gulch but ends up killing his captain Butch Flowers, himself, failing to stop Tex dying, and creating dozens of copies of himself. Church breaks the time loop after many attempts and rejoins his teammates in the future. There, they meet an alien, ‘Honk Honk’ and a bomb, Andy, who send his other teammates Tucker and Caboose on a quest while Church returns to Blood Gulch and Tex follows after Caboose and Tucker looking for a reward at the end of the quest.

During his last few weeks at Blood Gulch, he witnesses the birth of an ‘alien’ baby after Tucker got pregnant to the alien ‘Honk Honk’, the arrival of Sister –who is Red Team Grif’s sister on the Blue Team, and the second death of his ex-girlfriend Tex in an explosion after she takes the AI O’Malley, Tucker’s alien baby ‘Junior’ and the bomb Andy away on Shelia –in airship form, in a bid to ‘stop the war’. While having a somewhat unsteady relationship with Tex, it is clear that Church is disappointed and possibly upset from Tex’s apparent death, however he returns to Blue Base and continues his post.
